  1. boy of boy, that last comment was longer then the story! Gonzo, you really picked a controversial touchy subject this time! One more point you forgot, you won't be able to damage the ignition switch anymore, with (weights)by putting all your keys on one key chain!
  2. Gonzo: “Ctrl-Alt-Del” does not always work with computers, sometimes you just have to pull the plug or take out the battery! But your right the idea has extended into automobiles!
  3. gonzo: first thing about auto repair for me is know your limitations and most of all lots of patience if things don't go well.
  4. gonzo: Never sold or got rid of car for any of the above reasons you mentioned. usually it is something that can't be fixed reasonably like my old dodge where the under body rusted out so badly it effected the steering and was not safe. The other one needed a steering rack and since it too was a Chrysler and not made that well, with rust on the under body after 15 years, not worth putting money into it. always did the maintenance and when that is not good enough , I got rid of the car while the car does not owe my anything!
  5. gonzo: I agree with you, it's a lot more to do when repairing modern cars and the like today!More time is spend diagnosing then it used to be and for good reasons.
  6. Gonzo: Can't say I ever has any superstitious ambitions about stuff I worked on. It was good to read about a few!
  7. Gonzo: maybe you need to limit one repair per customer per visit! That should help!
  8. could not delete post, so see my final comment blow
  9. Gonzo: Another good reason cars today are more then then just getting around! Good story!
  10. yes, old tools. There is a lot of them around, some lost but for the most part can't be used in today's world, and have been replaced by a far better tools and as you know at a much greater cost then those old tools!
  11. yep, sometimes just a simple thing overlooked. It happens!
  12. nice to know what all this new technology will do for us and what it can't do!
  13. questions that can't be answered! good article
  14. I guess for most shops just want to fix the easy ones and move on, and just don't want to take the time to diagnosis, or like you say don't know how to diagnosis.
  15. it's good to share knowledge , and information that is not shared is lost forever"
  16. one time I brought a lifetime heater core from pep boys. The first one lasted about two years and the second one was bad right out of the box, so I asked for my money back and got it. Meant I had free use of the heater core for 2 years and decided to buy one with not such a longtime warranty and it is still good today about 15 years later!
  17. "corn" if you had it placed in the right spot and had a means to catch liquid coming off, you could of made some gasohol to help pay for the trip back home!
  18. gonzo: good version, first time I think I have seen it!
  19. gonzo: now I know where all those wrenches and sockets come from along the curb when I take my bike rides! vibration and curves knocks them loose and out they come!
  20. Gonzo; If everything is bigger then how do you explain why there is so little room under the hood to work on most vehicles today? Is it bigger there or have they just stuffed 5lbs into a 1 lb bag!
  21. SKM., that's about it, know your limitations with respect to what tools including diagnostic tools at hand, before going after a repair! There is a guy on you tube that has the saying "If I can Do it you can" that's provided you have the tools the technique and all the know how.
  22. some people try to over simplify because it gives them confidence that they can repair it. They just don't want to believe it is more complicated then they thought!
