  1. I charge 2 hours for programming, doesn't matter the make or model. The customer pays for time only. There is no line item on the customer's invoice for a subscription fee. Whether I pay for programming software by the hour, day, week, year, VIN, credits or tokens, it is my expense in my head. Every time I pay for software, I have it as an expense. Software for antivirus, bookkeeping, scan tool updates, repair information, shop management, and programming are all listed as an expense and are all in the same expense category. As you are saying, some of that software is a cost of goods. Yet is it a cost of goods if the customer is not billed for it. And does it matter is not an income so it's an expense all cost of goods are an expense anyway as I have to pay for them. Expense cost money. Income brings in money
  2. No, I charge 2 hours to program. but on the odd brands (GM & Ford) for me, that I program and have to pay oem websites. I eat the fee. I do a lot of BMWs and programming is included in my tool's yearly subscription.
  3. Well then, I'm not classifying the ACDelco and Motorcraft programming correctly. although I don't charge the customer for that just don't do enough to justify the yearly charges.
  4. Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the categorization of software expenses on financial statements. Specifically, I'm wondering if I should list expenses for computer software like accounting or computer protection separately from the software I use to actually fix cars, such as updates to scan tools and management software. How do you handle these types of software expenses in your financial statements? Thanks in advance for your help!
  5. YES. The landlord came to me for contacts, his insurance is more than doubling. My stepmom is a bookkeeper. one of her clients up 600% and my wife is in commercial insurance. best she could get a client is half of it if it's a total loss. lucky for him his properties are spread around but still uneasy he could lose more than they'll pay. and he was willing to pay more premium they just won't cover anymore.
  6. I called my wast oil company for a pick of water diesel and gas mix. They made me fill out forms cause I was not set up for fuels. Yet my pick up guy alway uses a sniffer to make sure we don’t have fuel in the oil. So on pickup day he bust out the sniffer and of course he’s a little skeptical of one of my barrels but takes the oil. But can’t take any fuel this time. So I still have 30 gallons and I guess I have to wait till I get more oil again. p.s. all the ant hills around the shop have been eradicated already
  7. Man i bought a jug for $180 last month I guess I should've bought more but my space is limited

  9. That's just about what we pay here in Tampa FL. 4 bays, 2-3 employees don't know if my wife took the third employee off. seem I cant keep a tech for more than 6 months. Don't know the coverage as my wife does commercial insurance so I don't even open up the policy. We have Nationwide.
  10. We buy from Cold Air. They have good service. and when you call and the put you on hold the message says same price to everyone only wholesale. I will say my biggest complaint about them is light on inventory. Also since you're in Florida try The Parts House. Retail parts stores are good for WD-40 and spray paint and little else.
  11. my bad i get my right and left mixed up. notes in on right side, passenger side i copied and pasted your words and it fit in to notes. then i added some labor time. i named it prepurchase inspection. In the description i put some like inspect costumer's potential new car. save it. grabed a random car from my list and add this generic job and saved as a pd but not sure how to up load the image. but it works.
  12. I'm not using all data online click shop jobs click new then it pops up the select new job items page there are 5 tabs the far left one is notes type what you want click add item if you use up the space in that note add more notes maybe brake the notes up as engine, suspension, interior and so on
  13. there's a note tab where you add parts and labor
  14. For phone shoppers we get their first name and phone #. we use the date as a last name. the last name can always be change later. this way every so often i can delete names of costumes that never come in very easily. if it is a customer that doesn't state that they've been here before than when the come in for that service we just save the job as a shop job and than use that shop job on the existing car. I feel that this makes it easier to root out shopper from customer in our customer list. then just delete the unassigned cars and now we have an accurate list of what make, models we see here.
