  1. How do you guys schedule work? I have been struggling for months to get the right balance between having enough work and having too much. Most of the time, I too much work to do and can't keep up with what is already here. Does anyone have any pointers for me (this one man band) on how to properly schedule work.
  2. Welcome to the site. I look forward to learning from you and hopefully having something that I can contribute to you. Make sure you are not a stranger.
  3. I think he was pretty close on the car diagnosis. LOL
  4. LOL. That's a good one. I hate to say that I have done things like that before myself.
  5. I have started doing that here. We are already warming up and mowing our grass around here.
  6. I could not agree more with what Dufresnes just said. I have worked in shops before with people like this and it ruins the work envirnment. You have to ask yourself what your happiness is really worth. The economy is slow. I have people all the time asking me if I know anyone hiring. It won't be hard to replace him at all. You may not get the same caliber worker though but does that really matter if you get someone with a better attitude, that is willing to help in your business and learn to get better?
  7. No surprises at all. This is about what he probably got in college since no one has ever seen his transcripts. LOL
  8. No cell phone usage at all when driving a customer car. That is my own personal policy.
  9. I only have one part time employee myself and when the work is done he is welcome to the shop. In fact we just put an engine in his Dodge truck a few weeks ago. Took a few days but it was slow anyway so it didn't matter much anyway.
  10. So, I hope this doesn't affect me when I have a customer that approves the work and then decided they don't want to pay for it. I guess its time to start taking better notes than I already do.
  11. Unfortunately for him, he looks a lot like me. My wife was doing a 6 week maternity teaching break for a teacher when Carson and I went down to this meeting. She made a comment she was a little nervous with me watching him while she was teaching because I was turning him into a picketting fanatic. LOL
  12. Here is a picture of my son last year at the April 15th tea party here in Nashville He is 2-1/2 in this picture.
  13. You can sell the Amsoil product at what ever price the market will bare. I like using and promoting a product like Amsoil because the customer can't go to Walmart and buy the product. Your customers can go and buy the same products you just mentioned at the same price so there is no loyalty to come back to you for that oil change. Here is the testing done with the Amsoil products. http://www.amsoil.com/performancetests.aspx The most promoted product may not always be the best products
  14. I actually push and promote the XL series which is there 7500 mile oil. I use this in both of my vehicles and really like it. The XL5w30 wholesale is $5.20 qt and retails for $6.80 qt. The 5w30 synthetic wholesales for $6.75 and retails for $8.75. Of course, there is shipping to figure in there which most of the time when I place an order I get the products within 3 days.
  15. My "generic" oil is the Oreilly's brand since I can get it pretty cheap and its made by either Valvoline or Havoline. The synthetic oil that I sell and promote is Amsoil. I have been an Amsoil dealer for over 2 years and have been very happy with the quality of the products they have and the broad range of products that they have. Independent Amsoil Dealers For Amsoil Synthetic Motor Oil, White House Tennessee
  16. I am also a Certified Auto Repair center. It was pretty easy to get involved in. I am glad to see that the program actually does what they say I purchase most of my parts from our local Oreilly's store. Its the only one around here that I like the quality of the parts.
  17. That quote from Thomas Jefferson says it all. The schools don't teach history anymore so there is no learning from the past and those that don't learn from the past are destined to repeat the same stupid mistakes.
  18. Never even heard of them. Got any links to the info?
  19. I can tell you being a resident of TN, we have the same basic idea here. It has cost 3 times what they predicted it would be and guess what, there is rationing of care. I have a bad feeling it will pass as well and if it does, time for me too get as healthy as I can so I don't have to attempt to go to the doctor anymore.
  20. I will post up some pictures and info when I have it. I would love to see info from anyone else that will be holding these to get ideas.
  21. It would depend upon what motivates the tech. How about cutting pay or charging when late? You are right that it will kill morale if one tech has one set of rules and the rest have another set. That killed the morale where I use to work. It wasn't the different rules, it was the politics of one tech getting all the gravy and the rest having to follow up after him and fix his crap. It's still that way 2 yrs after I left.
  22. I am up for recertification on everything this year. 4 already setup for this spring, 4 more in the fall and the L-1 advanced next year.
  23. I am planning to run one the end of the month of April to promote a few ideas to my customers as well as just give back to the ones that have been so good to me over the years.
  24. Do any of you guys have or promote a particular synthetic oil or do you use a particular brand of oil? If you do why do you use that brand?
  25. According to the site, the regular membership price is $79 a year.
