  1. Joe, I am glad that you pulled through. Remember the pilgrims celebrated thanksgiving despite the fact that about 50% of their group had died during the previous winter. Only five women survived the winter and one of them died once the weather warmed up. The lesson to me is be thankful for what you have. Do not focus on what you may have lost.
  2. Joe are you back open? If it is any consolation this may be our slowest week of the year.

  4. Thanks, a demo is headed my way. GLAD you decided to join. Don't be a lurker any longer.
  5. What do you think of Baymaster?
  6. Joe, my prayers are with you and your family and all of the people in your region. Hang in there. Any damage to your shop or home.
  7. No doubt the oil changes have been neglected.
  8. Nothing wrong with pursuing the German cars. You might see if it is possible to buy a list of German car owners within a 20 mile radius of your shop and market to them with direct mail. By the way we are glad you are on the forum.
  9. Joe, how many units will you sell in a typical month?
  10. Gonzo, you are right. Fasteners can be a lot of fun. Sometimes having to wait on the correct fastener that your ordered can really slow everything down.
  11. Here is what I iknow. A stiff tariff was placed on Chinese tire importants but that is now expired. What you dealer is saying is if tires are returned you will get the lesser of eitgher the current price or what was originally paid for the tires. The tire fee is imposed by the state. FET is a federal tax imposed upon certain heavier tires. This is what I think it is "The rate is $.0945 ($.04725 in the case of a biasply tire or super single tire) for each 10 pounds of the maximum rated load capacity over 3,500 pounds and should be built into the retail price of the tires." You do not see FET on any passenger tires just certain truck, trailer, and heavy equipment tires.
  12. Yikes! Tough situation. In the long run you have to make a business decision and do what is best for the business.
  13. Glad to have you! Sounds like you have a lot of work a head of you.
  14. Welcome to the forum. I am charging about what you are on tire mark up with about $10 more if the tire costs me more than $100.
  15. I just had the privilege of meeting Tony Gobble and his wife and visiting their shop in Cleveland, TN. They have a very nice shop and we had a great visit.

That was real nice, thanks for psoting this.

  16. People's opinoins of mechanics seem to run from absolute magician to complete blundering idiot depending on who you are talking to and what they are talking about. To be a mechanic in the general public's eyes is to have a few tools, grease under the fingernails, and the ability to loosen a bolt. I would say that about 90% of the "my brother-in-law is a mechanic" I would not want near my car with a wrench.
  17. I need to find a different management program for our shop. I want software that will not allow me to invoice out a customer until the cost of goods and parts vendor are recorded. Please tell me what you are currently using. What was the inital cost and what are any maintenance costs? Does it integrate with either Mitchell or Alldata for parts and labor?
  18. I think all of us has done this type of thing but I honestly think most of us probably do too much of it. Hopefully this is not a lengthy job labor wise. Personally I think you should at least get the cost of parts and oil. To do the whole thing for free indicates a potential malfeasance on our part. You know that this situation is probbaly due to her lack of maintenance.
  19. Joe it does not look promising.
  20. Joe, I am not much of one. Kind of a fair weather fan. My favorite team from my childhood is the Twins but I have become something of a Cardinal also. I hated the Cardinals when I was a teenager but when they are in the playoffs now I will root for them unless they face the Twins. However, when I was a kid I like the Yankees: Mantle, Maris, Berra, Ford, etc. Truthfully baseball is too slow moving for me as a fan although it is the only game I played as a kid. I prefer to watch NFL football and college basketball. I live and die with the Kentucky Wildcats (my alma mater).
  21. Joe, you handled that superbly.
  22. We have already raised prices some but we are going to do it again. Our labor is going from $82 to $85.
  23. Bossman, I see you have your business in Glenview. Prior to opening our shop I did environmental work. We spent over 6 months working at Glenview Naval Airstation during the decommissioning. It has been a long time but I use to know my way around up there somewhat.
