  1. We use the small Miller mig. I think it is a 120. That is all a shop needs for exhaust. One should cost about $550 plus you will need a helmet, wire, and a vendor for the gas.
  2. I get great service and treatment from our local NAPA distributor. They are our first call.
  3. This is one foe best post ever!
  4. Harry, I agree. Wes laid outte smart way to locate a shop.
  5. I think that the discount auto parts stores (Zone, Advance, O'reilly, etc.) have lead to the overall quality of all parts stores to be lower.
  6. I was talking to a girl in the bar last night. She said, "If you lost a few pounds, had a shave and got your haircut, you'd look all right." I said, "If I did that, I'd be talking to your friends over there instead of you." *********** I went to the pub last night and saw a fat chick dancing on a table. I said, "Nice legs." The girl giggled and said with a smile, "Do you really think so." I said "Definitely! Most tables would have collapsed by now. "
  7. Thanks Gary! That brought a smile to my face.
  8. Some of the Car-x's have built new stores with 8 regular bays and 2 quick lube bays.
  9. Never too big of a problem but at times I have to turn it down or ask them to do it but it is never a problem.
  10. Always be too busy to help and refer her to the competitor you like the least.
  11. Depends upon your state workmen comp rates, total payroll, and your claims history. I hunk I am paying about $9,000 but Indiana s fairly cheap on workmanship comp.
  12. Welcome and good luck. I am 14 years not running a shop and never turned a wrench. I am in th minority here.
  13. I don't think Angie's list is big in our town.
  14. I don't see consumers depending upon our website much for repairs. I think they rely more on reviews from search engines and sites like Google, Yahoo, Yelp, RepairPal, AutoMD, Angie's List, etc. They use our web pages for location, hours, phone numbers, and coupons. My $0.02 is that as far as driving traffic more interest may be generated from social media than websites.
  15. I think what would be more effective then ASE certifications is that if some technical school or group of shops would offer an auto technican apprentice program similar to what the trades do. My son is a union trained plumber. He spent 5+ years in an apprentice program which consisted of working five days a week plus attended classes two nights each week. He started at a pay scale of approximately $7.50 which was about 1/3 of what a journeyman plumber was paid and then received a pay increase each year. He actually took a pay cut to become an apprentice. After five years of training he took the state tests both hands on and written and passed and became a journeyman.
  16. Phone call, "How much to fix my air conditioning?" Estimate usually somewhere between $100-$1000. In extreme cases maybe $1500-$2000.
  17. Email me and I will mail you one for free.
  18. I offer an oil change with a free tire rotation. That way I get to look at tires, brakes, and suspension.
  19. I would eat that and wash my hands on his guy.
  20. A nice, calm and respectable lady went into the pharmacy, walked up to the pharmacist, looked straight into his eyes, and said, "I would like to buy some cyanide. The pharmacist asked, "Why in the world do you need cyanide?" The lady replied, "I need it to poison my husband." The pharmacist's eyes got big and he explained, "Lord have mercy! I can't give you cyanide to kill your husband, that's against the law. I'll lose my license! They'll throw both of us in jail! All kinds of bad things will happen. Absolutely not! You CANNOT have any cyanide!" The lady reached into her handbag and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist's wife. The pharmacist looked at the picture and replied, "You didn't tell me you had a prescription."
