  1. Happy New Year to you Joe and to Alex. ASO has grown into a wonderful destination for knowledge and help in operating our businesses. Plus we have the added bonus of Gonzo's entertaining stories.
  2. We have a Hunter Haweye. We considered John Bean (Snap On) and Hunter only. I purchased the Hunter because other service is iffy. I have learned that several of the Car-x's in larger markets are using either John Bean or Hoffman (the Bean machine marketed by non Snap On reps) with good success.
  3. I would not fix it and I would not back down. Tell her it is obvious that the damages are not recent and you have no reason to believe tht they were made while in your shop.
  4. Our vendor is also offer synthetic oil in a 6 gallon box/bag container.
  5. Getting ready to head to lunch with family. We will eat Italian and then head to candlelight church service. Tomorrow us the big christmas feast with presents.

Sounds amazing. That's what life is all about. And, can't beat Italian food either, but I am partial to that!

  6. Be Wary of Implementing Price Increases. http://www.shopownermag.com/implementing-price-increases/
  7. Left Coast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It figures!
  8. "Now let me see if I have this right. The family situation is so unstable, 'Junior' doesn't even know where to send a Father's Day card. There's no guidance or discipline in the home. Junior gets dumped into the education system where he is socially promoted because the overwhelmed school district can't deal with the undisciplined whelp. Junior's major formative influences are 'gangsta' rap videos and a corresponding peer group of gangsta wannabes. At age 18, Junior is turned loose on society carrying a bad attitude, a broken compass and little respect for authority. Junior gets himself in big trouble with the law and meets dire consequences. Then, the situational diagnosis is that the police need more training and understanding? Pardon me for asking, but do you really believe that B.S.?"
  9. In 15 years we never had to worry about it but last year we had a sales tax audit and needed to produce them.
  10. Nice! I worked for a business once that gave us the week off between Christmas and New Years. That was really, really nice. It snowed and I played with my kids in the snow.
  11. THanks I am very proud of her. However, the best part is that Janna, her husband, and two little ones 4 & 6 will be coming into to stay a week with us. Today is my youngest grandson's birthday. He is four and tomorrow is my birthday.
  12. I am not politically correct. I profiled people of Indian and Middle Eastern descent as hard to deal with and always trying to drive a bargain and deal with them accordingly. They are welcome to prove me wrong.
  13. The problem this guy had was a phone call to another shop that gave a price that was probably $100 too high for the repair. This scared him up and made him look for another route. When we doubled the part and charged book labor we were that much cheaper. I think someone screwed up on the look up which happens.
  14. If anyone is interested my daughter and her husband are doing a new church plant in Kennesaw, Georgia. http://www.abiding.church/
  15. Monday we were dead as could be so I give a guy a price for the labor to remove and re-install an alternator that he would take and have rebuilt. I wouldn't normally do this but $70 would help pay my lube tech. Anyway the car came in and we managed to sell the whole job plus a radiator he is coming back in for. Sometimes it works out that way. However, usually people with their own parts are time wasters. They come in with 5W40 oil instead of 5W30 and don't know the difference. That happened this week on a stripped drain plug referral from Walmart. Drain plug was a little damaged because the kid was trying to change his own oil and using the wrong size SAE instead of metric. He didn't know the difference in the wrench or the oil. He was litterally TOO STUPID to be changing his own oil. I would have done the same thing with your Indian customer. The Indians are always trying to beat you down. I once had an Indian woman come in and ask me to change her tail light bulbs which she had. I did it and then when I tried to charge her she wanted it for free. I went out and take the new bulbs out and put the old burnt out ones back in. I did it because I didn't want to see her again.
  16. November, December and January are always are slowest months. However, November was ahead of last year and December is also running ahead except Monday and Tuesday were stinkers. However, we have now picked up some large jobs which will help.
  17. I am of the philosophy if we can't do it right don't do it at all. It is unsafe to drive a car with worn suspension parts. Doing a toe and go with lose parts is a dangerous practice in my opinion and a disservice to the customer. If a customer has an overheating condition and I do a thermostat because they don't have the money for a proper repair would you do it? Why do a half-??? alignment because they don't have the money to do things right. It is the same difference. Now I am not saying don't do a toe and go if there is minor play but if the play is substantial it will only get worse. We will not try to do any alignment if there are loser parts. End of story.
  18. Alignments in our town go for about $79.95. We get most of our alignments by showing customer wear on their tires and by referrals from Walmart, Sams Club, and Discount Tires. We do discounted alignments for their referrals.
