  1. The biggest month we ever had was a February but that’s when people were getting early tax refunds. This February is terrible. Lost 4 man days to snow, lost 2 man days to a death, lost 3 man days to a new baby and 2 to an employee conscioussion plus fired a guy. Lots of business absolutely buried but no sales due to all the time lost and parts delays.
  2. Hopefully you work through this. I know you researched FMLA and know that all that is required is unpaid leave. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles an eligible employee to take up to 12 workweeks of job-protected unpaid leave for the birth or placement of a son or daughter, to bond with a newborn or newly placed son or daughter, or to care for a son or daughter with a serious health condition. See 29 USC 2612(a)(1). In the last few months I have had two babies born to my guys and I paid for three days off each. I thought that was generous. When my kids were born I never had a day off but it was a different day and different expectations.
  3. You are right. At this juncture being a second car and local driving is all of the charging ability most people can access. If someone gets careless and let’s their battery run down there is no walking to get a can of gas. Everything becomes towing.
  4. Joe you are absolutely correct. What do people in apartment buildings do? Think if all the cars are EV and have to be plugged in somewhere. Think about the capacity that has to be added to the electric grid.
  5. I belong to a BNI networking chapter and we have an electrical contractor in our chapter. He has been talking about install EV charging stations lately. Seems that business people are coming to our town from larger cities trying to drive EVs. They are finding few convenient charging options in our town. He is being contracted to install EV charging stations for a few companies. Now I know what this guy charges and he is not cheap. I would make a guess that most of what he does will cost $3000-$5000 at least. That is if the place where it needs to be installed has a large enough service panel. This could get real expensive depending on where it has to be located and what capacity is available. I do not think politicians and other people ever think about the cost they will incurr to install a charging station at home, at work, at the vacation home, etc. There is way more cost involved with these EV's than the purchase price and kilowatt hours of electricity used.
  6. Joe is right! My hat is off to you bantar.
  7. Joe, EV will have no impact on my business that will effect me. Where I live is one of the last places to adopt new technology and by the time it makes an impact I would be in my 80's if I live that long.
  8. Joe, the worst thing was I wasn't there that day and missed the show.
  9. The experts now say Masks don’t work unless they are properly fitted N95s. People wear cloth masked forgetting at the start that Fauci said we didn’t wear masks to protect ourselves but to protect others. The masks do not protect us. For a while Indiana had a mandate from the governor for people to wear masks and practice social distancing. As far as I am concerned we are not the mask police and we don’t make issue whether people did or didn’t. Maybe I am wrong but that is the way I feel and I just throw that in. Anyways we had a long time customer sitting in our customer area waiting for his car when a young lady with a very cocky you owe me attitude walked in the door without a mask on. The older customer proceeds to ask her where her mask was. She proceeded to tell him she didn’t have one and wasn’t going to wear one and that it was none of his business. He told her the governor required it and it was the law. Then all hell broke loose. She proceeded to cuss the older guy out and to call him every name in the book. It almost got to the point of fisticuffs. At that point my service manager intervened and told the young girl with her language and attitude he wasn’t going to work on her car that day. If we were to work on it in the future someone else in the family would need to bring it back. He also called the girl’s mother and told her that we would not work on the vehicle if the daughter brought the car back in. The girl had the attitude that everyone should kowtow to her, she was the boss and we owed her. That she would just bulldoze her way over everyone. Now this individual wasn’t being as rude to staff as to a fellow customer but I think it is close enough to count.
  10. How difficult did you find it to implement tekmetric?
  11. The most popular shop software products currently seem to be Tekmetric or Shop Boss.
  12. You guys are great encouragers and I know you are right!
  13. We are seeing back orders on quite a few items. This weekend I was trying to source some 215/60/16 tires. What I found was it was hard to find four of anything in a name brand. Inventory was very spotty with a lot of variance in prices.
  14. Last year we were at $95. The first of the year I raised to $100. About a month ago I was going to $105 but was advised to go to $125. Which I did. So far so good!
  15. Joe, if I wasn’t trying to retire I would definitely try to make at least one day. I don’t think it is a good investment for me at the late stage.
  16. Congratulations Joe! I know this is exciting and bittersweet all at the same time.
  17. Well I did it too. I was going to go up to $110 from $105 but a talk with my Car-x area manager persuaded me to go to $125. Well I have jumped on the train lets see how this plays out!
  18. Business is strong here.
  19. I am trying to go from one location to zero locations. I will be 69 in December. Anyone want to buy a good business in Indiana.
  20. We are on a national account deal with Safety Kleen and are being paid currently. Our deal has ranged from paid, no charge, or a flat stop fee depending upon the market. Of course our deal was negotiated for 1300 locations. I think the last check was about $0.20 or $0.25 per gallon.
  21. What are you guys paying to someone just starting with no real experience or tools?
  22. You are absolutely correct Joe. Everything is going up but especially wages.
  23. We have raised our rates by $10 in the last year but I may still be too low.
  24. I hope we are about done with masks. None required in the restaraunt today. Ya!
