  1. We always use aftermarket converters, about 90% of the time they are walker. For a time we were having problems especially on GM but not so much of late. By law the warranty on aftermarket converters is at least 3 years 30,000 mile. The conversation I had with a walker rep was that they had to beef up some converters because the emmissions monitoring on those vehicles was super sensitive with very little room for error. We have not had a converter fail in the last two years that I can remember. Was the vehicle you had a problem with California Emmissions by any chance?
  2. Wow! Did someone run over them with a dozer.
  3. I would be looking for a different company. I have had two claims if that type covered. One was when Autoowners was our insurer and the other was Ohio Casualty.
  4. Did the insurance company tell you why this wasn't covered. Did you tell them the engine failed or did you tell them something was done improperly that caused engine failure?
  5. I can't see why this would be covered by garage keepers insurance since your tech screwed it up. It was not a parts failure. That is suppose to be what garage keepers coverage is for. Who is the insurance company. I had a tech mess up a job on a subaru turbo charger and we had to replace the turbo charger and repair a cylinder head and the insurance covered the repair.
  6. That is a problem for me as well. I am better with someone else selling.
  7. I think they will work and I am interested in doing one.
  8. I like the history and picture of the old Gulf station.

  10. Amen! Christ is Risen!
  11. Good luck and welcome. Like you I am also a franchisee who came into the business with no automotive experience.
  12. Licensing doesn't improve the quality of work or help anything in my opinion. It is just more taxes and fees and jobs for bureacrats.
  13. Gonzo can answer this because he also teaches. He is a man who wears many hats.
  14. On R134 do you charge for a pound or break into fractions if you use less. In other words if you use freon is it always 1-2-3 pounds or is it .6 pounds, etc.
  15. I would guess that at least 50% of my customer base and decision makers are female.
  16. These are valid points. We have had techs with cards before and it never seem to be a problem. Our techs do not have a lot of interaction with customers as it is usually a service writer. Where I want them to have them is when they are not in the shop so they can pass them to people they talk to or know. Also I think it makes the techs feel more valued.
  17. I just order business cards for all of my techs. They are yellow card stock with raised thermographed printing. These cards are $25 per thousand but more than three thousand are $23 per thouand. They are nice looking cards. I ordered from Shelby Business Cards in Shelby, NC. They must be strickly a mom and pop shop as they don't even have a website and all they do is raised letter printing. My order was $184.00. I figured this is cheap marketing and a way to build pride in the techs.
  18. I guess the nice older guy was married to a ??????
  19. Call Center An Emergency Call Center worker has been fired in Toronto much to the dismay of her colleagues, who are unhappy with her dismissal. It seems that a caller dialed 911 from a cell phone stating, "I am depressed and lying on a railway line so that when the train comes I can finally meet Allah." To which the call center employee replied, "Remain calm and stay on the line.
  20. I have quit trying to sell most tickets. I cannot believe the huge ticket my female service writer sells. She is not very feminine but the women are comfortable with her because she is female and the men respect her and she is hitting it out of the park. Our ROA average is climbing.
  21. Two policemen call the station on their radio. "Hello. ..... Is this the Sarge?" "Yes?" "We have a case here, Sarge. A woman has shot her husband dead for stepping on the floor she had mopped." "Have you arrested the woman?" "No sir. The floor is still wet."
  22. I did it because it look like a good investment.
  23. No partner! Period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We take on partners because of our own insecurity and 99% of the time live to regret the decision. Making someone a partner doesn't make them as invested as you are.
  24. Gonzo you have an advantage. You have a son at home young enough to interpret for you.
