That sounds like a great deal. It is important that we all look at our equipment and process due to the new chipped (EMV) cards that are coming out. If fraud occurs after EMV cards are issued, who will be liable for the costs? Today, if an in-store transaction is conducted using a counterfeit, stolen or otherwise compromised card, consumer losses from that transaction fall back on the payment processor or issuing bank, depending on the card's terms and conditions. After an Oct. 1, 2015, deadline created by major U.S. credit card issuers MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express, the liability for card-present fraud will shift to whichever party is the least EMV-compliant in a fraudulent transaction. Consider the example of a financial institution that issues a chip card used at a merchant that has not changed its system to accept chip technology. This allows a counterfeit card to be successfully used. "The cost of the fraud will fall back on the merchant," Ferenczi says. The major credit card issuers each have published detailed schedules about the upcoming shift in liability. The change is intended to help bring the entire payment industry on board with EMV by encouraging compliance to avoid liability costs. Any parties not EMV-ready by October 2015 could face much higher costs in the event of a large data breach. Automated fuel dispensers will have until 2017 to make the shift to EMV. I have found the worst one that I have ever tried to deal with it is Direct Buy. First it is named coverage that covers very little. Now I have been working for over a week to get paid on $47.95. My advice is to refuse to even try to deal with this warranty company. We were on hold almost 2 hours and never got a cashier. -

The wife, startled at her husband's violent reaction, dashes to the fridge to get some butter. "You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW!" The wife, concerned by the status of her husband's mental state,forgets about the butter and goes running to the eggs. "WE NEED BUTTER! Are you CRAZY??? Where are we going to get the butter? They're going to stick! HURRY!" The wife runs to the friGERATOR. "CAREFUL about the eggs! CAREFUL. You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them quickly! Oh not that quickly, don't you know how to cook? Are you insane? Turn the EGGS!" At this point, the wife starts crying, since she has no idea what to do. She gasps, "What is WRONG with you? I know how to cook eggs." The husband simply smiles and replies, "I just wanted to show you what it feels like while I'm driving with you in the car," and leaves.

If you are going to buy Snapon (John Bean) I suggest you look ast Hoffman. My understanding is that it is the same machine as sold by Snapon just a different label which can be sold by independent reps.

I see that you are a BMW only shop. Did you start in your current location? Did you have a personal following before you opened? If you have a good reputation and following it can be done. However, if you are like me and know nothing about the business and open a store it is much harder. I was an investor/businessman not a technician. Before I was in this business I was an environmental consultant/engineer. I did work in Twinsburg, OH, near you for Coca Cola Enterprises at the bottling plant they had there. -

My thought is they will not go out of the way to come to your shop if there is nothing there to draw them but your shop. 80k cars traveling by your shop two blocks away at 50 mph will not benefit you if they have no reason to stop other than your shop. When first trying to locate our store we found a nice piece of property on a heavily traveled street at a good price. It was in an older somewhat declining area of town. When the Car-x guy looked at it he said immediately no go. Car-x looks for the following: a population of at least 80K to draw from, 15K per day car count, a destination location such as a retail center or area. The land on which our shop is located cost us almost 3 times as much as the first location we looked at and my conclusion is every dollar was money well spent. My advice is find the best location you can afford. Believe me the person who said location, location, location is right. -

If a shop owner has a following and a reputation people will seek him out. However, if a shop is brand new with no reputation I think location can be critical. Our business probably would not have survived if we hadn't had a prime location when we started. Have you ever seen restaurant after restaurant go into failed locations because the building and equipment was already there and it was a cheaper option and then fail. I think of one building here that had a succession of 5 or 6 that did that before someone succeeded. You can succeed but it is definitely harder. In our town a gentleman took all of his 401k money and invested in an All Tune and Lube Franchise. He borrowed money from the bank and remodeled an existing location and equipped it with new equipment and hired technicians. He advertised but was open less than 2 years and had to go back to his old job. The location he chose is located within a few blocks of our largest mall and our main retail area. However, the problem with the location was it was at the end of a dead end street a block off the main drag. It had plenty of parking, a nice building, good equipment, and good technicians. However it had zero visibility and zero drive by traffic. The only way you knew where the store was was to go looking for it or take a wrong turn. -
Jeff, I am so glad things have turned around. I know it looked dire but God was faithful.
