  2. My evaluation if what I considered to be good but inexpensive programs were MAxxtracks, TABS, and Baymaster. There were reasons I didn't go with these but I think they could all work depending upon your needs and budget.

  5. This business is very unpredictable. The biggest month we ever had by a large margin was a February which is the shortest month business days wise.

  9. I have a Lexus, a GMC, a Subaru with a Boxer engine, and a Ford. If I were to be looking for a place to service my vehicles I would not go to a place that could only service one of them.

  11. I would probably do it as I think that is an attractive market. However, I think you will need to add some help. You do not have a lot at risk but what about signage?

  13. Don't chase this guy. He would be nothing but a headache. Some customers are not worth it and this is one of them. He probably is looking for low ball pricing. My philosophy is that if some other shop is busy with the low ball work then I can get the more profitable work.

  15. Those are exactly my thoughts. You quote a low ball price to get the work and then give them a cut. Sounds like a venue for desperate shops.
  16. I do not work on cars. I never have worked on cars. I own and operate a business. Do not assume that enjoying working on cars as a hobby will translate into enjoying running an auto repair business. I don't especially like cars but I can run a business and I can make money. A lot of people who like working on cars and are good at repairing them are terrible at running a business. My first question would be what do you not like about what you are doing now?
  17. I would like to revive this thread by asking what tools are each of you using today. What do you recommend.
  18. Banks will do equipment loans and they will also loan money for expansion. At one time I had an open line of credit that I could access with a phone call. However, I do not have that anymore since I do not have the need for it. I have been fortunate enough to not have to borrow any money for equipment for longer than 3-6 months and then doing it interest free. Basically if I do not have the cash I do not make purchases.
  19. Why would anyone design a vehicle where you gave to remove the bumper to replace headlight bulbs?
  20. Had o Had one of those yesterday. He told me what he could get the parts for and acted like he and his buddy could knock out 4.1 hours of book labor with no lift or tools in 2 hours while dealing with frozen bolts, etc. Then after telling me what he could get the parts for he had to ask what other parts were needed besides a pittman and idler arm. I wanted to ask him how he knew how much the parts were if he didn't know what they were.
  21. Who does the post card printing for you? Are they glossy printed? What does the printing cost you. How do you address them? Are you stamping them or sending them bulk mail?
