  1. All valid points. Before I opened a shop I always hated going to a shop that used strong arm sales techniques. There is a local tire store that I went in a few times and they were always trying to sell me shocks and struts. Even when I went in for a flat repair. However, in checking a customer in after they have finished talking I do like to ask them if there is anything else they need like wiper blades. This often prompts customers to add on additional items.
  2. Welcome to the forum and good luck on your efforts.
  3. For what it is worth Consumer Reports has reviewed the really small jump starters and this was their top five all reccommended. It looks like the Spirit A8 is the cheapest. Their report said that these can be iffy in freezing temperatures. 4. I believe Mitchell uses the Activant/Epicor portal. The way it works for me is I tell my POS provider (Omnique) which vendors I want and they set it up for me.
  5. The lower your prices are the more of this stuff you have. I haven't had anything like that for years except for an employee who went nuts.
  6. Gonzo I think you are in a League of You Own and I mean it positively.
  7. We have a TV but most people are buried in their Smart Phones. KIddos like watching cartoons. FRee WiFi is the most popular thing we offer.
  8. During May our sales plummeted but June, July, August were all up year to date.

  9. One situation where I had to call the police was someone trying to get something for nothing. I think they were practiced in pulling their scam. The other was someone who was unbalanced. She was convinced we had swapped out a tire on her car for a different tire. We hadn't and had no way to convince her and she wouldn't leave.
  10. I have had to call police on two occasions in 17 years other than I called on an employee a couple of times.
  11. Welcome. This forum can give you a lot of valuable information. It is well worth taking the time to read through past posts.
  12. Here is a different perspective. https://www.yahoo.com/news/screwed-world-where-only-dealers-164629566.html
  13. There is an easy fix to this situation. When a customer orders tires from TR and picks us as an installer TR always send us an email notifying us of the order. I always then email the customer and tell them that I will notify them when the tires arrive. It would be very easy to also say in a confirmatory email that the installation costs would be $xxx per tire plus $xx disposal. That should help prevent a situation like this unless these folks were really computer illiterate and someone else did the ordering for them. We have been TR installers for about 17 years. We still get mostly high end customers from the TR.
  14. This is a review I received on Facebok today. This customer ca,e from a referral. You all were a life saver! I still cannot believe how wonderful it was to have you all work on my car. Aside from family working on my car, this was the LEAST stressful car situation I have ever experience! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
  15. It is not the building as much as location, location, location. However, you tend to have nice buildings in more desirable locations. It is hard to get the more upscale customers to travel to a poor location. Our franchise likes to locate their stores in destination locations. Old buildings can be successfully renovated but do you want to do that in a poor location? However, from what I can tell you are locate in a small community. I think location is less important in those situation than it is in larger cities. I use to live in a city of about 6,000. For example there the brokerage firm I did business with got away with an office on the less desirable side of town. However, they renovated the old building and made it look nice inside and out.
  16. I like the peanut butter. I mean in the way it ties you to the community and a good cause.
  17. I really like your scottsautosopec site. It is a winner in my book. However, the Volvo site is note very impressive. Print is too small and it is too generic.
  18. You can still buy a decent house here in a desireable neighborhood for less than $150k. Not like LA.
  19. There is an easy fix for this situation. Make it a polic.y to always confirm with the TR customer what the charge will be before you proceed. If they don't agree just tell them they can take the tires anywhere they choose.
  20. AAA is now our competitor and have been for about ten years or so. Everyone affiliated with them or considering it needs to know these facts.
  21. If they get it right then they change the design.
  22. I hired a guy two weeks ago with lots of experience who talked a great game to be my lead tech and shop fireman. Two weeks in I fired him. All he wanted to do was stand around, be on his cell phone and smoke is e-cig. He was almost worthless.
