  1. Wow! My hat is off to you. One problem we have is being land locked with only 25 parking spots.
  2. I have no excuses. Our March beat last March and we are up on the year and all bays were full yesterday. However, I believe that certain factors affect all business. The extra $1800 I spent for health care premiums is money that would have been spent somewhere else. Multiple that number by millions. In our region of the country every business owner I have talked to (non automotive) says business is soft. The only sector locally that seems to be booming is construction.
  3. That is very true or send someone home!
  4. Discretionary income was not the best choice of words. What I mean is for some people needed repairs are postponed until the vehicle won't go and then it becomes required. I have a 2011 Buick in the shop today where the owner drove on the brakes until he now needs rotors, calipers and hoses. He turned a $150 repair into a $700 repair but we all see it every day. All the time we see people drive out of our shops with vehicles that are unsafe. For some people it is all a matter of cash flow. They live pay check to pay check and a little extra expense disrupts everything.
  5. Great illustration! Also illustrates the law of numbers plus the need of practice to become good with your presentation. A lot of neophytes do things and phrase things in such a way as to kill the sale.
  6. As harry has said Automobile Liability-if you have shop vehicles they have to be insured. General Liability-To cover you if someone trips and falls, etc. Garage Liability-I think this coverage is included with the Garage Keepers but may be different state to state. Garage Keepers-To cover the vehicles while they are in the shop or being operated by your employees On-Hook Liability-I do not have this coverage. I assume this is towing which we do not do. Worker's Compensation-State required. Excess Liability-Also called an Umbrella. Used to up Liability limits where you have adequate coverage in case of a catastropic occurence. To this list I would add Property insurance to insure the building and contents. Required if you own the building and may be required in some lease agreements.
  7. I think the effect of Obama Care is slowing business down. Premiums are up across the board. Mine are personally up over 20% from last year. Some people are having to pay back subsidies that they claim earlier but didn't deserve. Some are paying penalties. All of this affects discretionary income and they have to cut somewhere. These affects along with tax time definitely drags business down.
  8. Speaking of psychology then read "The Unfair Advantage Selling With NLP" by Duane Lakin. NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) is a fascinating subject. Much of the Sandler Sales methods are based on NLP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuro-linguistic_programming
  9. mcspecperformance, I am curious to which one is your favorite.
  10. Slingshot is available at Half.com for $5.84 in paperback.
  11. In case you haven't noticed I have just past the 3,000 mile mark in posts. I don't know if that means that I have been on here too long or that I waste too much time on line or both. Is there some kind of reward or special club one joins after a certain number of posts? 😁
  12. This is my favorite coffee to drink at the present time. Sorry the image is so big.
  13. Business is soft for both Car-x (mostly midwest) and Monro (mostly eastern).
  14. Yelp locally does not seem to be very popular. I do not think it is worthwhile in this small mid western community in the middle of no where.
  15. The one we are considering is a RX16.
  16. Business is very soft in this part of the country.
  17. I have a chance to buy one at a very good price but it is still a lot of money. It is a 16,000 lb.
  18. Alex, I answer the best that I could since I do not know all the details. Car-x has a website with a page for our shop. They do everything and we a fee monthly based on gross sales. It is usually between $150-$200 and is called ad prep it covers different stuff including the web.
  19. I have a tire company outside salesman who also reps equipment including Hunter and Coats. He is a very good guy, and a personal friend. I tell him what I can get stuff for elsewhere and he does what he can. I have bought a tire changer and balancer from him and a couple of other smaller items. Stuff like floor jacks, transmission jacks, battery chargers, etc. have come off the internet.
  20. The flip side of the coin is although there are only two of us my wife and I have four vehicles. A. Lot if people have more cars then there are drivers. That was not the case when I was young.
  21. Jim these are all valid points and are a portion of the problem.
