  1. They should ban passenger tires more than 8 years old.
  2. In Naples, Florida the other day, there was a bumper sticker on a parked car that read: "I miss Chicago." Someone broke the window, stole the radio, shot out all four of the tires, added an Obama bumper sticker And left a note that read: "Hope this helps!!!"
  3. My service manager's brother opened a shop and bought a cheap Chinese balancer and changer. They were both constantly broke down and were completely out of commission within 6 months. Service was almost impossible to come by and replacement parts took months. The Chinese stuff may be ok for a hobby shop but not for a serious shop doing any volume. I would rather have used American than new Chinese. Our lifts are Rotary, our changer and aligner are Hunter, and our balancer is Coats. Don't buy Chinese for anything with a lot of moving parts. Their stuff has a lot of plastic parts that break. Above all else don't do Chinese on balancers and changers is my advice.
  4. 5% seems low to me. Are you able to do that in the Chicago market?
  5. I like it. Looks good!
  6. Just hope you never have a problem because they never ever showed any ability to help me. In my book nobody is ever given the ability to resolve a complaint.
  7. And you will need replacement parts for sure.
  8. Here is the danger of free or cheap diagnose. Occasionally I buy problem cars to fix and flip or make a loaner. I was contacted last week by a non-customer about a vehicle needing a transmission. I bought it and fixed it today with a $40 used alternator. They saved a lot of money didn't they!
  9. I am with you all the way on this one. I will never do business with Mitchell again unless they are the last software company left on the face of the earth and then I will think about it. They are liars and they cannot absolutely resolve anything.
  10. I do not see that you have much to lose since you are single. I say go for it.
  11. Definitely a subject that many of us need to seriously consider. I turn 65 in December. Anyone want to buy a franchise? 😬
  12. I have always used some Carquest starters and alternators. We have experienced a high failure rate recently and have concluded that we will not use those again.
  13. Do you have a phone like this? https://youtu.be/kyisfzUT7Ys
  14. They do but they also sell alot of cheap chinese stuff as well. Just looked at a popular size and saw Sentry, Arizonian, GT Radial, Kuhmol, Falken, etc. All low end stuff. They aslo have some name brands but some of those are like the Walmart name brands. Manufactured for them to who knows what standard. I find often when pricing against them that they are selling their second line heads up against the mine as a brand for brand pricing when it is not the same stuff.
  15. Discount tire doesn't pay near minimum wage.
  16. Maybe he is a parts swopper not a technician.

  18. I wouldn't want to be selling used tire in New Jersey. Here the used tire guys sell some real junk.
  19. For years we didn't charge and then I switched to charging a nominal amount. Finally, about three years ago we switched to charging 5% up to $35 maximum. What I found out was the biggest problem in charging shop supplies was me not my customers and that for years I had been giving away money.
  20. We charge for shop supplies and maybe once per year someone says something. The only ones who ever complain are cheapskates.
  21. Wow! What a rip off. I haven't heard much of a recommendation for Yelp on this forum.
  22. One of our techs had a heater core to do in a Hoarder vehicle when he heard a rustling sound. It was maggots inside a fast food bag.
