  1. Ken, sounds like a good dedicated man and probably a workaholic. As a business man he had no exit plan and never built something of value he could pass on. Hopefully he has some money squirreled away for retirement but probably not a lot since he is planning on continuing to work. I wish him success on the underground storage tank clean up. He is on a small lot and with the property having been a gas station 30 plus years there is a high likelihood that he will not only have soil contamination on his property but both soil and groundwater contamination off-site. When you have off-site contamination it can get real sticky. I hope Washington state has a UST cleanup fund he can participate in or that his insurance helps foot the cleanup. If not the cleanup can wipe him out and turn this property into one of those brownfield locations.
  2. Two hillbillies walk into a restaurant. While having a bite to eat, they talk about their moonshine operation. Suddenly, a woman at a nearby table, who is eating a sandwich, begins to cough. After a minute or so, it becomes apparent that she is in real distress. One of the hillbillies looks at her and says, 'Kin ya swallar?' The woman shakes her head no. Then he asks, 'Kin ya breathe?' The woman begins to turn blue and shakes her head no. The hillbilly walks over to the woman, lifts up her dress, yanks down her drawers and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue. The woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm and the obstruction flies out of her mouth. As she begins to breathe again, the Hillbilly walks slowly back to his table. His partner says, 'Ya know, I'd heerd of that there 'Hind Lick Maneuver' but I ain't niver seed nobody do it!'
  3. Enjoying hugs and kisses from two of my granddaughters and reading them stories before I go to the shop.

  4. Welcome! Good luck!
  5. I did not know about it until you posted.
  6. Joe, to me those sound like great results. We were up 7% through the end of August. September has been strong until the last week. The high heat has helped our business this year.
  7. Good advice! Joe how have you sales been this year compared to last year?
  8. I use a 22" monitor and I like the wide screen.
  9. Just today there is an article in our local paper of a guy starting a new auto repair business who say he is going to charge $45 per hour. He is a one man shop. There is a reason that the average labor rate in this area is $75.00 per hour. If this guy is that cheap on his labor he will more than likely be very cheap on his parts mark up. What he doesn't realize is that he is condemning himself to working long hours, doing without equipment, working with bottom feeding customers and a lot of junk cars, under paying himself, maybe doing without health insurance, etc. etc. etc. He will not realize the mistake until he is exhausted, burnt out, struggling to pay bills and to buy the equipment he needs but he thinks he is being smart. Obviously he believes the way to get business is to be the cheap guy. This sort of thinking is bad for him, bad for his family, and bad for this business.
  10. For years we bought direct from Raybestos and stocked PG Plus pads organic, semi-mets, and ceramic. More recently we switched to a local vendor and install Wagner middle grade pads and Thermoquiets. Local store Lifetime Wagner Middle to High end Some of each.
  11. Joe, I have never been and am not planning on this one this year. However, I will consider it in the future. If I ever get to a show or meeting where you are at I will certainly introduce myself and shake your hand. How is the business coach gig coming along?
  12. How do the dealers handle this one? Do you know? At the present time we do not have the equipment to recalibrate.
  13. Enjoying a day off today and going to my youngest granddaughters second birthday party in about one hour. It has been honey do this morning.

  14. Here is what I am currently using but there are no legal disclaimers. Maybe we should have them but I like to keep it as simple and short as possible. When we have used more complex forms my guys didn't utilize them. Services 2009.doc

  16. Just that little question can trigger additional work. We should all be in the habit of asking. "Ask and ye shall receive".
  17. Like the ’55 Chevy, the 3,000-Mile Oil Change Is Pretty Much History http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Like-the-55-Chevy-the-nytimes-3825041162.html?x=0&mod=pf-family-home I saw this article today and my opinion is that the general public is being given bad advice. I personally change my oil at 3,000 miles and if someone wants to push it I wouldn't advise going beyond 4,000. I have saw far too many vehicles with engine trouble and failure due to sludging. Today we are servicing a 2009 Ford F-150. The leasing company is using a 5,000 mile interval on its oil changes but is not taking into acccount the fact that this vehicle is never shutoff due to the equipment on board until the end of the day once it is started up. The hours it runs far exceeds the mileage driven. We recently had to install lifters in a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup with a Hemi due to pushing the service intervals. This customer is now a confirmed 3,000 mile oil change interval adherent aftering spending $1,700. Besides sludging issues we have saw on many vehicles I am firmly convinced that having someone change the oil and look at a vehicle every 3,000 miles or 3 months is a service the consumer needs. Often we catch other problems and can fix them before they become big ticket repairs.
  18. Cuba is realizing that the answer is not in government spending and is laying off 500,000 workers. Their roles are to be filled by PRIVATE INDUSTRY. Our government is headed the opposite direction.
  19. WASHINGTON – The number of people in the U.S. who are in poverty is on track for a record increase on President Barack Obama's watch, with the ranks of working-age poor approaching 1960s levels that led to the national war on poverty. Census figures for 2009 — the recession-ravaged first year of the Democrat's presidency — are to be released in the coming week, and demographers expect grim findings. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100911/ap_on_bi_ge/us_poverty_in_america
