  1. Here is one view on the current administration. I do not care for the language but the points are well taken.
  2. For something to put you in the holiday spirit watch this video:
  3. Sounds like a great place to work. You aren't looking to hire are you? We gave our guys who have been with us the whole year a $900 cash bonus last Wednesday so they could take advantage of the Black Friday sales if they so desired. We will also give everyone Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off with pay. Everyone will work a full four day week. Friday will serve as everyone's day off and Saturday will be the holiday. We find having a full work force for four days is more productive than having a slimmed down workforce (one man off each day) for 4 and 1/2 days.
  4. A few days ago I was having some work done at my local garage. A blonde came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. We all looked at each other, and another customer asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?" She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine. I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there." The mechanic gave the blonde a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had the hood up and asked, "Is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said, "Of course, it's right there."
  5. True Stories From The Butterball Turkey Hotline (where people call to get advice how to cook a turkey from the experts) * Thanksgiving Dinner on the run. A woman called 1-800-323-4848 to find out how long it would take to roast her turkey. To answer the question, the Talk-Line home economist asked how much the bird weighed. The woman responded, “I don’t know, it’s still running around outside.” * Tofu turkey? No matter how you slice it, Thanksgiving just isn’t Thanksgiving without turkey. A restaurant owner in California wanted to know how to roast a turkey for a vegetarian menu * Then there’s the time a lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but couldn’t find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, “Do these turkeys get any bigger?” The stock boy replied, “No ma’am, they’re dead.”
  6. Reasons to Be Thankful! The Silver Lining to the Burning Question You Burnt the Bird? A Dozen Reasons to Be Thankful! •Salmonella won’t be a concern •No one will overeat. •Everyone will think it’s Cajun Blackened. •Uninvited guests will think twice next year. •Your cheese broccoli lima bean casserole will gain newly found appreciation. •Pets won’t pester you for scraps. •The smoke alarm was due for a test. •Carving the bird will provide a good cardiovascular workout. •After dinner, the guys can take the bird to the yard and play football. •The less turkey Uncle George eats, the less likely he will be to walk around with his pants unbuttoned. •You’ll get to the desserts quicker. •You won’t have to face three weeks of turkey sandwiches.
  7. The reason I remembered the rust thing was we were dealing with a rust bucket Olds Achieva yesterday. It had came from Chicago.
  8. A Happy Thanksgiving to you Joe and your family, to Alex and his family (we are praying for your father), and for all on you on this forum. God bless! Wonder if Gonzo has a turkey story?
  9. Joe, in your area how much of a problem is corrosion with the longevity of cars. We don't have much snow here in Southern Indiana so not a lot of salt. However, I would think that high mileage coupled with corrosion would mean that a car will not last as long in your area as in mine.
  10. One local dealer is running a second shift. I don't know if it is profitable or not. I think it is mostly fleet work.
  11. Are any of you guys spending money on search engine marketing? http://www.tirebusiness.com/subscriber/servicezone/ServiceZone_story.html?id=1290439921
  12. How about $19.95 including all fluids or $9.95 plus fluids?
  13. What price point would you offer?
  14. I would call someone high up at this company and complain.
  15. All I can say is that is insane. Honda's are great cars but they won' t stand up to that. Mostly we talk to the customer who is pushing oil change intervals and tell them what we have saw and why we wouldn't do it.
  16. As a customer I wouldn't want a license plate frame or a decal on my car. That would be a way to lose me as a customer.
  17. Alex, both you and your father are in my prayers!
  18. Nice to know. I have never dealt with the Lizard! Every adjuster that we have ever dealt with has been o.k. except Allstate. That guy was terrible, rude, and arrogant.
  19. Good post! Great to have you on here, welcome!
  20. Amen! I would especially like to honor my Service Manager Greg Horn who bravely served as an Army Ranger. During his service he was involved in two plane and one helicopter crash. He also served for 8 months in Egypt when Sadat was assassinated seeing combat in preventing civil war. My Master Tech Ken Willet who served in the Army in Special Forces was in the Grenada invasion. He works on two artifical knees due to a parachuting accident. I am very honored to have both of these fine heros working at our shop.
  21. Why Ice Fishing Sucks:
  22. Was that an Allstate adjuster? They are the only ones we have dealt with that treated us like that.
  23. Max, that was a great post. We have done something very similar. Wally world is 1/2 mile away from us. We in the past have delivered donuts to the Tire and Lube Express (TLE) thanking them for sending cars to us and asking them to send more care to us. When we get one of the TLE people's cars we give them special pricing and treat them real good because we want to be the shop they think of when they need to send someone to a shop. We have sold them tires cheaper than they can buy them for from TLE. Walmart has sent us a tremendous amount of business and we have also done a lot of work for them when they screw up on a car. We have installed one engine, three oil pans, dozens of broken wheel studs, etc. in the past twelve months. Guess who changes oil, works on the car, and installs tires for an Assistant Manager at this store. We do isn't that hilarious. Having a Walmart near your shop is a great advantage if one will just work it. It is the cheapest type of Marketing and if Walmart sends someone to your shop those people will trust you because Walmart sent them. We have also have a good relationship with AZ and they also send us quite a few cars. That isn't as good as the Walmart thing because as some have already indicated the professional repair shop is a last resort for the DIY people. Definitely cultivate a releationship with Walmart if you are near one. This will pay off in spades.
  24. The number of federal workers earning $150,000 or more a year has soared tenfold in the past five years and doubled since President Obama took office, a USA TODAY analysis finds. The fast-growing pay of federal employees has captured the attention of fiscally conservative Republicans who won control of the U.S. House of Representatives in last week's elections. Already, some lawmakers are planning to use the lame-duck session that starts Monday to challenge the president's plan to give a 1.4% across-the-board pay raise to 2.1 million federal workers. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2010-11-10-1Afedpay10_ST_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip
