My husband and I own an auto body repair shop. We just heard from a State Farm adjuster that they will no longer be paying us directly for repairs. Meaning ALL checks go to the insured. So what do you do? Do you hold the vehicle until SF pays the customer? Or do you ask the customer to pay in full? This is a horrible situation for us, because we're going to look like the bad guys for not releasing a vehicle, especially if a customer is paying for a rental car out of pocket. We constantly are losing money because customers call insurance and tell them to send them payments, then they won't pay us after the vehicle has already left.
What are you doing?
