  1. We don't talk about where parts come from. Unfortunately napa wants nothing to do with us, they seem uninterested in our business and won't set an account up.
  2. 4 weeks in. 3rd tech; I think this one is a keeper.
  3. We have a decent matrix but we adjust when we can.
  4. 97 Ford Ranger 3.0L ac compressor part number: 618132 autozonepro $179 retail $358 autzone $185 part number: T58132 advance auto commercial $156 retail $250 advance auto $185 in this instant advance obviously has a decent discount but they never said it was going to be a consistant %20 off.
  5. We just set up with O'Riley. We are outside their delivery area by a few miles but seemed eager.
  6. We are not doing large numbers but a few grand in the first 3 weeks shows we are serious. they said we would get top tier for first few months anyways.
  7. First, I feel like i am hogging the board... I know parts store discount are based off of volume but when we set up with Autozone they gave us a flat %20 off non showroom parts then we signed up for the "Casper" program to lock that rate in. Advance Auto gave us the variable discount and again signed us up for the "top" tier till we got established. When ordering on their online sites it seems we are getting a deal. When we compare our discounted price to their website and store price the discounts are only a few bucks an no where near %20. My questions would be; How normal is this? Are we getting played? or is the normal life goes on? The dealer parts we get seem to have a legitimate discount over what they sell them for, not much but it doesn't appear there are games being played. As always, thanks in advance for the insights.
  8. Wise words above. I will be sharing with my partner. Just new to this world and this site makes my decision making easier.
  9. And yes new plugs and wires
  10. Thanks for the advise. I should have sold the job and expectations better.
  11. I guess my real question is unforeseen issues or non complete diagnosis. How often do these accur and how is this explained to the customers. It seems to be someone common on this truck but wasn't happening before
  12. Not being a mechanic I need some help. What happened when you fix a problem but it doesn't fix the customers concern? Had a friends truck in wih blown head gasket and was ran till it stopped. We quoted him on head gasket and resurface heads and possibly replace heads if cracked. It's all. Back together but really idling rough.... I'm kind of lost with what to do between keep throwing parts or back track.
  13. I was planning on starting with 1000 but if you think 10 hours will get a few thousand out I may order more. 2500 is $250 vs $150 for 1000. I have a dedicated partner, wife, and he has a daughter. Plus we both grew up in the same large and well established neighborhood so when we run into people building report will be easy in that neighborhood.
  14. yuk. the germaphobe in me would put down our seat protectors to protect my clothes.
  15. Yea malls are very anti flyers. I was in a touring band for years and we would flyer malls near shows and always got kicked out. Always, but not after we decided and conquered.
  16. I have been researching them and for the cost I can't see skipping over this medium. I will order 1000 Monday and share the results. Best tip I read was keep dog treats in you pocket incase a angry dog is around.
  17. That's a good point. I'll look into that. I doubt it's an issue because code enforcement is very weak here. Kinda sad sometimes. We never did permits for any of our temp "now open" signs and no one cares or they are actually taking it easy on new business.
  18. Still my favorite car under 100k. Wife has a Mini(could not sell her on any other car, any). We won't keep it once factory warranty runs out.
  19. Anyone have any experience with them? I just ordered sent 1000 direct mailers hitting later this month, We are running an ad this week in the paper, and have passed out over 100 flyers to local business. The door hangers are very inexpensive and we would hang them ourselves on weekends in select neighborhoods and maybe even get to talk to some people face to face. When I was younger my church would canvas the neighborhoods for events and had great results. I know this is not even closely related but I think I am going to give it a try.
  20. I personally believe land rover has more issues per vehicle because they have more systems and equipment than most and thier owners are more likely to bring it in for every small thing. I personally would give a kidney for a new super charges sport. Offers out there...
  21. I am a huge fan of the E-myth as well. I am not a "tech" but I am far from ignorant on auto repairs. If owning a business is your goal I would focus on learning small business management and accounting, That is what I spent the past couple of years doing at my local community collage.
  22. Sounds like a tough day. In the end just remember you are not working for a major corp making someone else all the profit and still left dealing with the angry clients. Hint, that's my current day job. Dealing with the public can take it's toll for sure.
  23. Joe, appreciate your response and hope one day I can contribute as much as I have gained. 2 weeks later things have been getting busy. We had over 10 cars last week. we have implemented daily tracking spreadsheet to keep up on daily metrics(car count, closed tickets, gross sales, and gross profit). Our news paper ad starts tomorrow and we(my partner) have been winning over some fleet accounts with our first fleet service Monday. We are pushing for next week to push into some daily net profit and never look back.
  24. Thanks. We got auth for repairs and they asked for a w9 with has our corp name which has my last name in it.
  25. I have a 3rd party warranty on my personal car and was pondering the legality of my shop doing the repairs. I am an absentee owner and the repairs are legitimate. I read the entire policy and read no issues. I assume, seeing as it's a corporation and not a sole proprietor, it is a separate entity. Feel free to add opinions or facts.
