  1. Thought about it. It's probably more effective at convincing people it's a lincocadiroyce that my advance is at being a parts store these days!!!! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  2. As many of you know I'm in the process of cutting what ties I can with advance auto. After spending 45 very frustrating minutes in the store trying to correct some billing issues I was extremely frustrated - angry might be the better word. And within milliseconds of seeing this car I was laughing uncontrollably! Sometimes it's the little things! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  3. I've hurt myself to many times to count pushing cars in with snow and ice on the ground. If it comes down to pushing by hand or waiting to work I'll be waiting. Got plenty of customers and work, only got one body. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  4. We still pick them up most services but if it's just been in for repair (eliminating the need for a inspection) or the customer is in a rush it seems to come in handy. Also nice seems to help avoid atf showers too. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  5. I just bought an dip stick extractor for oil changes. I was wondering if anyone used them or had any input. Obvious cons would be the possibility of not getting all the oil. We'll see how it goes. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  6. I had one tell me last week how he really wanted me to do his work and he really liked us but he was just a working man and we needed to do something about the price. The last shop did both front wheel hubs for $50 and if I'll do it I can have his business! He got offended when I laughed? Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  7. I used quick books for years. Looking back I don't know how we did it. Not well, that's for sure. It can be done but it can't be done correctly without extensive manual entry work. They could add some modules and it would work fairly well but the way the standard version works it doesn't fit automotive businesses in regards to billing and customer management. In the end it'd be cheaper just to go ahead with a management system. The matrix alone pays for the software! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  8. We've got gas logs in the waiting area and a wood stove in another part of our building. Both are not in locations flammable gasses or liquids could easily or quickly reach.I was really surprised to see this was the cause. Makes you think about banging your head on the wall lol. Hate it for them, but can't say they were not asking for it. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  9. Launch sucks! And sucks bad! Everything in their line I ever tried was junk! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  10. We hit a little rough patch through the last 2 months! It'll come back! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  11. http://m.morganton.com/news/cause-of-service-center-fire-determined/article_e35fdf3c-b31b-11e4-94fa-6b6d849be5e8.html?mode=jqm Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  12. I'm waiting to hear more on the cause. Rumors were going around that a tech was checking fuel pressure on a running & hot engine - it flamed up and he panicked and ran in the process he failed to shut off the ignition or grab an extinguisher. Who knows if that's even remotely close to the truth. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  13. A shop about 50 miles from us had a pretty serious accident today (from what I've heard http://m.morganton.com/news/update-fire-destroys-longstanding-morganton-service-center/article_10681852-b225-11e4-a3ba-3ba4f96d61be.html?mode=jqm ). Luckily it looks like there were no serious injuries but it made me curious about emergency preparedness - how do you guys handle it? Only three of us in our shop so we're always in communication anyway with plenty of exit paths. How does something like this play out insurance wise? Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  14. ROFL! That's awesome. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  15. That's just plain ignorant lol Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  16. I have a lot of customers who come in and cry "you are higher than everywhere I checked!" And with a little prying they leave embarrassed when they realize you caught them in a lie! It must be a new technique used by cheap skates. Had one pull it and I showed him repair pal and then asked who gave you such a much lower price on 4 ball joints and he replied "advance auto said they could do it for $120" I literally laughed out loud! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  17. I've heard this before but repair pal is typically on point around here! I fall dead in the middle most times and still clear 60% with loaded labor prices. Not saying that it couldn't be wrong in your area but around here its pretty close. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  18. I have the website and whole package which equates to $300.00 a month. I'm not sure on individual pieces. I know alldata manage offers scheduling but it's lacking compared to Google calendar in my opinion. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  19. We do a minimum of a 10 mile test drive on every job with the exception of oil changes and tire installs. We rarely deal with comebacks. Most of this is the fact we're a 3 person shop and everyone has personal stakes in our performance. I do all the diagnosis work, so I typically will spend longer verifying my diagnosis and repair because I'm the owner. Hourly or book wages as my motivation! My reputation directly represents my compensation! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  20. Google calender is what we use and we love it! We also use motorev (driverside) which contacts the customer with reminders which is nice as well! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  21. That's happening locally right now! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  22. All of my employees are told when they are hired that they are at will. Either party can terminate the employment at any time. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  23. I did mean sexually assaulted but it was probably more of harassment. We found through our security cameras he'd been trying to follow her around and take photos of her rear. Then he started opening his mouth inappropriately. The legal advice we received suggested he hadn't actually broken any laws but certainly warranted termination. Other issues had been starting to pop up as well. He worked well for a couple weeks and things sharply started going down hill, always had something to say about management, thought every female customer had a thing for him etc. I was very upset and nearly lost my temper but decided it was best to handle it professionally. It was handled Friday without a hitch. I think he was only concerned that his significant other would find out and I'm sure he's not told them the truth in regards to his termination lol Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  24. Anything I need to know? This employee sealy assaulted my wife and he's being terminated. I've documented what happened along with failure to complete requested training and poor productivity. I've spoken with my lawyer, accountant and insurance company. The termination papers document all the basics such as not allowed on premises without consent, allowed to pick up tools in business hours, what the problems were and why they resulted in termination. Dates of the incidents, the fact we expect our keys and uniforms etc. Anything I'm missing? Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
  25. Did what I could! Hope it helps! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
