  1. Just to be clear, I completely agree. Don't let the other clatter disrupt your comment. I'd love to pay our techs more (they currently make more than I do, but we're a small shop. There's only 3 of us!)We also need to drive our employees in a direction that they take responsibility for the profitibility and production of the shop. They need to reap the benifits, I agree. But it's not always easy finding those good employees capable of doing that!
  2. Let me guess you just finished watching the movie trolls. You've picked up some good pointers but your too obvious and not intelligent enough to pull it off. Go back under your bridge and leave trolling to the pros. Not some Wana be mechanic.
  3. That's great, but I really believe you should give at least 2 days off a week. Maybe Monday!
  4. This is the post everyone keeps referencing, not you _2080. No need to get so defensive and rude.
  5. We're also a Napa Autocare - long story short we had a warranty job go to another autocare shop and the technician guessed his whole way through the job, tossed parts and refused assistance when offered. Point is associations and certifications only go so far. Training, we require it for our employees but if their not willing to learn it doesn't so any good! Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  6. I'm a family man. Monday-Friday 9a-5p. We even close an hour for lunch. Our employees have families and profit isn't the only thing to consider. Our customers don't mind a bit, we're booked weeks out! Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  7. No! Price goes hand in hand with quality service in my mind. I just went up to $75 from $65 and haven't heard a word about it. Sometimes our conscience tells on us. Be confident or your customers will pickup that you don't feel comfortable, and might buck. $75 is the bottom of the spectrum in my mind. If you offer a quality service with warranty then your good to go! Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  8. The guys at drewtech are awesome to work with! We'll be looking at their product over the next few years. With right to repair it's a very real possibility their tool will offer OE diagnostic software and programming on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly license. That would be amazing! 9. I'm pretty sure Steve is a troll from a facebook group which shares post from aso but takes it put of context. It's basically a group of techs which have failed or are failing in their chosen career and seem to blame everyone but themselves. I wouldn't put too much weight in it, just ignore him and they'll get bored and go away. It may even be Micheal Costa himself who has frequented the forum in the past. 10. That's where I was going with my comments. They were once upon a time great techs, but life had taken its toll on them. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  11. Seems to me you've spent most of your time on this forum upset that the shop owners are turning a profit. That being said your post also show that you don't have the shop owner perspective. Why don't you start a shop and see the cost of doing business for yourself. I agree, tech pay is low in some areas, but you seem like you just have a bone to pick. Almost like the world owes you something? If your getting cheated go out on your own! Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  12. Most dealers charge more than the parts list price when providing it to a customer in the shop. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  13. I've not experienced any issues and very primarily a diesel shop. I have had to go to the generic option and clear emissions data but I've never had any issues clearing it on any of the makes or models. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  14. I agree! But in my case the tech was seasoned and well experienced - he had personal issues and fell off the wagon. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  15. I agree completely. As mentioned above, we see a lot of techs that couldn't pass them if they tried! I've taken and passed the practice test for the areas we specialize in - the real reason I've never pursued them further is there's only 3 of us. Things get hard without 1 - and up until last year the nearest testing facility was 2.5 hours away. Maybe one day considering there's a facility at the local college now.I wish they would create a licensing board here, we're surrounded by hacks. I can easily name 5 big shops that never exceed parts changing, rarely even attempt to diagnose and operate on unsafe equipment. As a matter of fact, we've got a 6.0l in the shop now that the previous shop charged $1800.00 to "try some things" and never got it running. Last night I drained at least 1qt of starting fluid from the oil pan. I won't disagree a licensing requirement would help us all - and I suppose ASE certs would help achieve that. 16. I'm not certified, and doubt I'll ever pursue becoming certified. I've got cars lined up out the parking lot, and work scheduled weeks out and very few comebacks. The problem is, we've hired some ASE techs that couldn't find the door handle. We've had good ones too, my point however is the certifications hold very little weight. We looked at L1 tech recently that had personal issues, he would've been as bad as a newbie fresh out of school. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  17. Agreed. It's time to move on. I've gotten myself into tight spots in the past by not addressing issues like this in a prompt manner. He's not the employee you want, send him packing. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  18. I needed to hear this! You should post them on facebook, I'd share it with all my bad customers! Lol Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  19. OK that leads me to a question. When that car comes in and you find these issue, do you sell and complete the work during that service appointment or schedule a service appointment for those issues? Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  20. There's a really cool kwik start that sets on the ground and has long leads. I think ill get it next. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  21. We only work a 35 hour week, we take an hour for lunch and we're closed on weekends, so luckily we shouldn't have to worry about overtime! Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  22. where do I fill out the application?!These are all great ideas, my problem (maybe more of a personal worry) is I can't afford for them not to be productive. We're small. $550+ is a big chunk a week if they can't complete even $550.00 worth of work a week. We're really working hard on implementation of systems that help them suceed. The jump is just a bit intimidating. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  23. I'm going to hire a new tech soon. I've been through the wringer with employees. We're a smaller shop and at times struggle with organization. We're currently expanding and the work demand has been so high for over 3 years now we've got to move forward. In the past we've paid hourly - bit us in the butt with productivity. We're too nice. These pay ranges were $10.00-$15.00 per hour. We've paid base of $400 + book starting at $15.00 and moving to $20.00 paid anything over the $400.00 We've tried team book @ $15.00 - $20.00. Either one or the other is always unhappy. This time I plan to better implement tech work sheets, and use these to help keep the employee better versed on their time. Any suggestions on a pay plan that will satisfy employees and encourage productivity? We're at $65 hourly - and will be going up soon. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
  24. I've not had any issues with this radiator, I have however experienced issues with the Napa prolink Web page Vin lookup. Basically it's not very reliable in some applications. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
