  1. It's basically a exchange number, that is free and includes a voice mail service, allows you to text customers and record conversations. You can forward the shop number too it, and use your smartphone to make telephone calls from a number that rings the shop. It also allows you to keep a record of all incoming calls to verify employees are answering calls. It also allows you to schedule what phones ring and when. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  2. We've never done much advertising but I'm considering doing something now. Looking on course with last year and I'm interested in bringing that up a bit. Not looking at spending a fortune and I'm leaning towards post cards as we've done it in the past but would like some input. What's the best (in regards to return) economical advertising you've done. 3. Operations management and managing dollars with sense really opened my eyes! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  4. Glad I'm not the only one dealing with this! It's such a pain. We use Google voice, which allows us to block callers (and track to make sure calls are being answered, record customer calls etc). It cuts down on the number of calls but lots of them constantly call from new numbers. If you ask about being removed they hang up. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  5. great books! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2

  7. Agreed. I've been through the mill with used parts. Just went through three motors to find a good one, finally installed the good one that looks to be a fresh rebuild and it's got a slight knock. (Most all 4.7l chryslers knocked at some point). Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  8. Www.car-part.com uses the same software design as most junkyards and links to them all. It gives the option and year ranges in look up options on some vehicles!Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  9. That's what I'm trying to do, based off guess work. What software does this? Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  10. What kind of time frame are you thinking. All data manage offers a follow up system but the letters seem real cheesy and "fake". If like something more personal and professional. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  11. Just had a issue with a customer. Typically as a business owner in try my best to avoid confrontation and in the case my wife handled it. Customer has owed $700.00 for 7 months and never paid. Has truck towed to shop for knocking then no start. Motor had low compression, no oil pressure, full of metal. Priced a motor job with a used motor and previous bill at $4700.00. Customer comes in tonight and swears I said he could take it without payment? Then pays $410.00 on a card and $800.00 cash and demands his truck. When denied he demands he gets his money back. Threatens to call the local law enforcement, trys to butter everyone up and it just keeps going and going. Offers to leave title and all the money he has. I feel bad for not trying to help the guy but also feel if I had helped him I would have just screwed myself. Any input? I take issues like this personally and have tried to avoid doing so but can't seem to stop. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  12. This may be the wrong forum. I'm looking to start sending service reminders and would like to incorporate something to the tune of "our records indicate your due for an oil change", I've also considered calling customers as opposed to mail/email. When do you send your reminders? I was thinking at the 3 month mark. An examples of service reminder letters or customer follow up letters that you might use would be a great help as well! 13. Initially I started very small. $40.00 a month. After calling to cancel they told me that I had been using the wrong program I should use (later I found out that was just the newest platform, not a new setup just a new UI) once using the new ui I opted to spend a bit more and went upwards of $400.00 a month for 2 months with no noticeable gains. Called again to cancel, and they told me I needed to work on my keywords, and even after a while on the phone it was found by the rep that keywords were not responding as expected, so regardless what we typed in the most common placement of my add was at "exhaust repair" and "muffler repair". So he explains give them a month to get it straightened out, after that month nothing changed. I called to cancel and due to the fact I had used the original first it took lots of work on my end and their end to actually cancel the service. It was however easy to stop the ads (billing also). All that said, it's just as likely that my abilities limited their abilities! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  14. Don't even bother! No return, hard to cancel. Did it for about a year and a half never got additional views, never got any mentions of it. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  15. I'm locked in at 29.95 for three months, 49.95 month before switching to 99.95. SHE software is scheduled to release in May, but I'm hearing estimates of $300 a month for the software. That's a touch high for us, we're a small shop, I just don't feel comfortable at that price range. I've noticed over the past few months with all data manage that it's really lacking and complicated in some important areas, which some were addressed with the mobile version, but the mobile version eliminates a good bit of the functions. Very interested in seeing AAP's try at a sms system! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  16. How do you address it once their already your customer? Lol Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  17. I was cursed like a dog early Monday morning just to see if I'd fix a problem for free. So tired of dramatic customers. I can't help but take it personally! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  18. I recommend just buying the book! My books been passed around to the point the pages are worn thin! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  19. I was amazed when I found this place, it did wonders for my profit when I realized others hear the exact same comments and it didn't really have anything to do with me, my work or my shop. As a matter of fact less people have complained about price since I started charging more and correctly. I lost some customers that liked the old pricing but also left a good bit of stress behind with those customers lol. Can't please them all, best just let it go. Easier said than done lol. 20. Forums are to blame for that. They just can't wrap their heads around other possibilities and don't understand that while a failure may be similar it's impossible to diagnose a issue via the Internet. That being said there's a ton of good resources for us in those forums which include in many cases a fix that's better than what's offered via oem. (For instance the Vp44 fuel pressure issues) Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  21. X3. I make a good bit of my income from head gasket jobs. Especially on diesels. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  22. I had one that one of my guys accidently forgot the test drive last week and it came back with a misfire. We ate the diagnosis and labor to replace the coil pack and customer covered the coil pack. Are you saying if they misdiagnosed the issue you cover the entire repair? Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  23. wow! That's pretty rough! Anything I can do to help let me know! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  24. Just something I wanted to add, I don't mean to get off subject but thought it was worth mentioning. I'm guessing it was a head job at 22 hours billed, if he didn't remove the cab in the first place no wonder he bent stuff lol! If you do a lot of these it might be worth setting a standard procedure for this job where everyone's got the same idea about how the job goes down. Removing the cab is the only efficient way to do those type of jobs! Hopefully I didn't cross a line with this, just wanted to throw that out there. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
  25. The 6.0l has a steep learning curve but once you get them figured out there no bad at all. I have a ton of 6.0l parts that are known good if it helps at all. A lot of techs seem to struggle with a 6.0l hard start and there's a ton of known issues in the first place. As far as bending parts that's just ridiculous. Those are trucks that we work on pretty regularly so anything I can do to help let me know! Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
