    Exactly. Scrap steel goes for $0.13/lb in Atlanta. Or you could post it in the craigslist free section, and you'll have 500 scrap guys at your door within ten minutes.

    Was listening to the radio this morning. Floyd Mayweather is betting $10M on this game!! Wow!! Then, they kicked off a call-in for most bizarre bets ... a guy called in saying he had his house riding on the game a house that he lives in with his wife and 14mo old!     Good gracious ... I cannot imagine running an in-house credit card. Tracking down the no-payers has A&E reality show written all over it.

    Is this a trick questions, because I'm not very good at riddles. The fix-o-can didn't work ... i.e. the leak stop didn't stop the leak / fixed it too late / wasn't the issue in the first place / etc.

    Excellent video. However, he did not answer the million dollar question: What do you do when leakseal is detected? It's certainly not recoverable. Vent it to the atmosphere? Put a filter on the recovery machine (do these even work)? Tell the customer tough luck?

    Agree 100%. Word-of-mouth is king in small towns. In cities, the internet and review sites are king. It's strange that with so many people, they cannot talk to one another ....

    Interesting question on an open, barn-style layout vs. a midas-style multiple bay layout. I see pros and cons on both sides here: Open style pros: - Cheaper to build - Cheaper to heat with one door (important for you up in Mass) - Able to centralize and move about the shop easier Midas style pros: - Looks better from the street (subject to opinion, but most would agree that this appeals more than this) - Vehicle are in and out much quicker, no traffic jam at the door (the shops in our city do 50-60 cars a day) Personally, I'm a fan of the Midas style, and we are actually in the middle of renovating our building as such. However, we are in Atlanta. In Mass, weather becomes a concern, which makes me understand the open style.

    I'm going to resurrect this post, as I have been wondering the same thing. Our equipment supplier has a ton of stories about stop-leak ruining recovery equipment. Are you guys running any pre-filters on your high/low lines, or how are you testing for stop-leak prior to evac'ing systems?

    Was CustomerLink recommending sending a text message ad to all your customers? If so, I can see this having a negative impression. Curious if they have success with this anywhere.

    Would you mind clarifying this? I'm assuming that the 2 hrs refers to techs doing both the front AND the rear, not 4 hrs for both. Just clarifying. Thanks.

    I'm not an expert on marketing and traffic counts at all. However, while researching our location, I came to find that a Meineke repair franchise location requires a daily traffic count of 20k+ vehicles per day. A more location-dependent business, such as a Denny’s or an IHOP restaurant, requires a higher traffic count in the range of 30k+ vehicles per day. I'm not saying this applies to your shop directly, but I did find it interesting that these franchises will not even consider locations off the beaten track.     Spence, could you elaborate on this a bit more? What are the differences between the various generations?

    I don't know how yall feel about used equipment, but I've seen quite a few of these 2001-2006 Road Force balancers reconditioned with new spindles and screens on Craigslist for $4000 - $6500 with warranty. Still pretty expensive, but it beats paying $14k for one.

    Fleets are an excellent idea for how you are currently setup. Be careful on how you structure your fleet invoicing. As a lean start-up, you probably are not going to have the cash reserves to float the net 30 to 90 days worth of invoices that many fleets will be expecting.
