Do you provide/pay for uniforms for your employees?

Just curious if anyone makes their employees pay for their uniforms (pass along the cost of uniforms to your employees). Thought never really occured to me but a customer had mentioned his company makes him pay for his uniforms (works for a sewer plumbing company). $15 a week he pays.

No, employees have enough costs to be able to work (tools, training).

On going training I provide unless you are talking about tech school loans.

We pay the full cost of the uniforms, it's one of the perks we provide. However many of our employees have reported that they had to pay part of the cost at former employment.

We provide them for all employees. Our membership in the Virginia Automotive Association gives us deep discounts based on their alliance with Unifirst. Might want to look in your area and see if there are similar groups and arrangements.

Just a story on Unifirst, they gave me a great price, signed contracts with them, took measurements, waited 6 weeks got a call saying they couldnt offer the same deal they had previously so they had just wasted 6 months of my time. They got put in my blacklist of companies I hope go bankrupt.

I buy the uniforms online, local guy embroiders them, the tech washes it. Saves us both money. No weekly fees.

Washing really is the big challenge as the dirt and chemicals will ruin a home use washing machine quickly

I disagree. My $300 basic home washer is going on 15 years no problems. I don't wipe my hands on my pants so the uniforms mainly get dirty from tires and stuff, a little oil might splash on them. I don't wash rags at home they ruin the machines.

We provide shirts and hoodies. Also, allowed is plain black t-shirts or t-shirts advertising products we sell ie) Dynocom Dynos, Nitous Outlet, Flowmaster, etc. We have a strict policy on pants and we allow shorts in the summer; can be jeans or dickies, no rips tears or stains. We included jeans because the owner hates to wear dickies.

We provide uniforms as a perk. That way everyone's uniforms get repaired/ replaced as needed and everyone looks professional
